PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE

HARPERSVILLE PLANNING AND ZONING BOARD

The Harpersville Planning and Zoning Board will hold a public hearing on Monday, May 20, 2024 in the Harpersville Community Center at 6:15pm to consider the option of implementing a moratorium within our community.

A moratorium is a temporary halt on certain activities or developments, often put in place to allow for a thorough review of existing regulations and policies, or to address emerging concerns. The purpose of this public hearing is to gather perspectives from residents, businesses, and experts, regarding the potential benefits, challenges, and implications of implementing a moratorium within our jurisdiction.

The Town of Harpersville is proposing a two-year moratorium on RG homes. Furthermore, the town is also advocating for a one-year moratorium on all subdivisions to complement the pause on RG homes. This additional measure is essential to allow the town to focus on addressing pressing planning and development issues that have been overshadowed by the influx of subdivision applications. The Proposed Resolution is attached with this notice. See Exhibit “A”

All persons who desire shall have an opportunity of being heard in opposition or in favor of this subject. All individuals desiring to share their thoughts during this public hearing must contact Amber Gardner to be included on the agenda no later than Thursday, May 16, 2024. Each person will be allocated three minutes during their speaking time.

Individuals with disabilities needing special services to participate in applications, activities, programs, or services are requested to coordinate their needs in advance. If special accommodations are required, please contact Amber Gardner, Town Clerk/Treasurer, at 205-672-9961 or email at Townclerk@harpersvilleAL.gov
